About Me

DescriptionHelen Billett is a Canadian artist and writer whose work captures themes of resilience, transformation, and healing. Born in Mississauga and raised in Bramalea (Brampton), her love for books was first nurtured at the Brampton Public Library’s Chinguacousy Branch, where she worked during high school. She went on to study Art History and Studio Art at the University of Western Ontario, gaining early experience in commercial art galleries before shifting to Digital Media Design. This path led her to work as a Senior Web Designer at Canada’s largest bookstore, where she combined her creative and technical skills.

After the birth of her second child—a daughter followed by a son—Helen stepped away from the corporate world to focus on raising her children in the Beaches, Toronto. During this time, she rekindled her art practice, participating many times in the Beach Studio Tour and exhibiting locally. Her visual art has been licensed for retail, featured on television, and displayed in notable spaces like the first Big Brother Canada house. Eventually, challenging life events and the need for deep healing led her to step away from creative work once again.

Now living in Scarborough, she has re-emerged with a renewed creative voice, exploring both visual art and writing. Her debut poetry collection, Cliffs and Cathedrals: Poems from the Precipice of Healing, reflects her personal journey of unraveling trauma and reclaiming joy.

Through both written and visual mediums, Helen’s work remains a testament to the transformative power of art.
